John 6:60-71
Jesus Christ is indeed the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. Turn to John 6:60. This is the 23rd lesson in our study of the book. Today's installment brings us to the conclusion of chapter 6 and the further response to Jesus' message on the Bread of Life.
You will recall last week that that crowd that saw Jesus multiply the fish and bread tracked Him down at the Capernaum synagogue. They were ready to install Him as the King of Israel until they heard Him preach. Jesus preached a sermon that made the crowd very angry.
The fickle crowd from John 6 was the most volatile. Having had their bellies filled BY Jesus, they now had gotten a belly full OF Jesus. As Jesus continues the Galilean portion of His ministry, the reaction here is the same as it was in Judea. Some believed but most did not.
1. Some immediately rejected Him and His works. They even said His wonders were empowered by the Devil himself. They did not believe.
2. Others responded to the wonders and miracles but were turned away by His teachings, especially when He taught about Himself. In the end, they did not believe.
3. A third group followed Christ for a while. But when the heat of the gospel turned up a few degrees, they couldn't stand the Lord's kitchen. Though it took longer to manifest, ultimately, they did not believe.
4. The fourth group included genuinely converted believers who persevered in their commitment to Jesus. These were genuine believers.
Today I want to show you that even though UNBELIEF takes on a variety of forms and manifestations, there are ultimately only 2 reactions to Jesus. Belief or Unbelief.
We live in a world that doesn't like or embrace absolute truth.
We reject the notion of right and wrong.
Every man wishes to do what is right in his own eyes.
We want to live in a nebulous world of grey.
No one is right. But then, no one ...
