John 6:22-59
Jesus Christ is indeed the Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God.
He is King and God and Sacrifice. Turn to John 6:22
This is the 3rd lesson in John's longest chapter and the 22nd lesson in our study of the book. Today's installment brings us back to the 6th chapter and the lengthiest text we'll have in this entire study. This text represents ONE conversation Jesus has with some Jews and I don't want to break it up.
Joke: I heard about a man that was married to a rather talkative lady. He told a friend, ''I haven't spoken to my wife in 14 years.'' The friend asked, ''Are you mad at her?'' He said, ''No I just don't want to interrupt her.'' Well, in this case, I don't want to interrupt Jesus.
Because of the length of this text I need you to listen very attentively.
In today's passage, thousands of people, at least a representative group of them, have tracked Jesus down for the sole purpose of lavishing their praise upon Him. He responded with a lengthy sermon that is typically called, ''The Bread of Life Discourse.''
By the time He finished His message, the crowd that had loved Him at the beginning of the service, hated His guts and wished He were dead.
Did the Lord need a crash course in ''how to win friends and influence people?'' Did He need a refresher course in ''drawing the net?'' Could He have benefited from a seminar on how to grow the church and increase evangelistic success? Or was the problem in the ''pew'' rather than in the ''pulpit?''
In light of His sermon on the Bread of Life and their angry reaction to it, I want to ask this question today: What did He preach that made them so mad?
The setting for this long narrative is simple. Jesus had multiplied the fish and bread, walked on the water, and stilled the storm on the Sea of Galilee. After calming the storm, He and His disciples were immediately at Capernaum.
