Funeral Service Canaanite
Series: Funeral Series

Matthew 15:22
Sermon Summary: This funeral sermon compares the qualities of the deceased to four characteristics found in the Canaanite woman who sought out Jesus. Those four characteristics are: 1) Cared for Others, 2) Persistence, 3) Chutzpah, 4) Loved and Rewarded.
I. SHE CARED FOR OTHERS
Mt. 15:22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, ''Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.''
The Canaanite woman asked Jesus' help not for herself, but for her daughter. The reason she said, ''Have mercy on ME'' is because she loved her daughter so much and identified with her suffering.
Our departed sister loved people. Like this woman - she loved her children first of all. She also loved others. She was INVOLVED in the lives of many people through Sunday worship, Bible study, Tops and Koffee Klatch. You can usually tell when someone likes you and our sister usually DID like you because she was a people person. That's important to God. I Jn.4:21 Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
II. SHE WAS PERSISTENT - Mt.15:23-25
Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, ''Send her away for she keeps crying out after us.'' He answered (her), ''I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.'' The woman came and knelt before him. ''Lord, help me!'' she said.
Like this persistent Canaanite woman, our departed sister was persistent in prayer. Many of the discussions she and I had surrounded prayer. She was sometimes frustrated when God didn't answer her prayers in ways that were discernible to her, but she wouldn't give up. Jesus taught that we should always pray and never give up. She did not give up.
She was also persistently faithful in servant leadership. Everything rises and falls on leadership. I can tell you in one word what determines the success or failure of a ministry ...
