SERMON SUMMARY: This sermon addresses Jesus' command to ask, seek and knock from the perspective of INTERCESSORY prayer.


Mt.7:7-8 ''Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.''


INTRODUCTION: PREVIOUSLY ON ''OBEY EVERYTHING''. Last week I compared life to a game of Red Rover. We don't want to ''Red Rover'' people with the truth. When it comes to the ask, seek, knock passage of scripture, we applied it to interpersonal relationships. Ask, seek, knock is a kinder, gentler way to interact with people as salt and light. Granted there are times for debate, correction, and rebuke. There are also times to ask a question, seek people out and to knock on the door of someone's heart and request permission to enter.
Today I want to make a different application of the same scripture and let's use a different game - a team sport: basketball. After Michael Jordan, of the Chicago Bulls, scored a game-high 69 points, teammate Stacey King, who scored 1 point, quipped ''I'll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined to score 70 points.'' Sometimes it pays to have the right teammate. Last week we said we need to live with thoughtful interaction. Today, let's talk about living with bold intercession.



Mt.7:9 ''Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!''
