Behold the Lamb (5 of 75)
Series: The Gospel of John

John 1:19-34
Jesus Christ is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. And in today's text John puts this great Friend on display. Early in this series I have already found there are 2 dangers in preaching through a book like John. First, is the danger of preaching the same sermon from each text. But the second danger is in getting too far away from that same sermon! A holy hush falls over the courtroom as a barefooted preacher steps forward dressed in a camel hair frock girded about with a leather belt. His hair is a bit disheveled and his voice is somewhat raspy from all his outdoor crusade preaching.
Nevertheless, he raises his hand, takes a solemn oath, sits down in the witness chair and with the smell of locusts and honey on his breath he begins to give sworn testimony identifying Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit made sure that a court reporter was present. And that inspired stenographer wrote down every word of John the Baptist' ...
