JESUS CHRIST is the Star of the Scriptures. This entire book is about the Lord Jesus.Yet I am super thrilled about presenting Him to you in the pages of this fourth gospel.Irecently heard a famous preacher jokingly remark that mediocre preachers ought tostick to preaching the great texts of the Bible. For these passages, he said, tend topreach themselves with very little help. Today I shall embark on such a task and suchatext.The task? Begin a new series through John. The text? Not at the beginningof thebookbut near the end.John 20:31 is the theme verse of the entire book. The versethat precedes it will help establish the context.In nearly 12 years as yourpastor I have preached verse-by-verse through 25 books ofthe Bible and large portions of a few others.
