SERIES SUMMARY: In the ''Great Commission'' Jesus directed that future disciples be taught to ''obey everything'' he had commanded. This sermon series seeks to study all of the commands of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew in order that we might ''Obey Everything.'' (The Beatitudes are included in a separate series on Sermon Search entitled ''Obey Beatitudes'').

SERMON SUMMARY: This sermon introduces the concept for the series AND establishes that the NEW TESTAMENT containing the commands of Jesus is trustworthy and reliable.

INTRODUCTION: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is that what you are now? One survey revealed the current top ten vocations that children under 12 want to be when they grow up: Doctor, Veterinarian, Police officer, firefighter, scientist, engineer, musician, athlete, teacher, astronaut. (''PREACHER'' did not make the list for some mysterious reason!)

Habit two of the Stephen Covey's ''7 habits of highly effective people'' is to ''begin with the end in mind.'' So, what do YOU want to be when you grow up? That question may appear a little trite but think about it for a moment. Are you--right now--who you want to be? Are you doing what you dreamed you'd be doing and what you always wanted to do? Sometimes we find ourselves achieving victories that are empty--successes that have come at the expense of things that, in the end, would have been far more valuable to us. If our ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take gets us to the wrong place faster.
Habit two, ''to begin with the end in mind,'' is based on imagination--the ability to envision in our minds what we cannot at present see with our eyes. It is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There is a mental (first) creation, and a physical (second) creation.
