There are some thoughts, ideas, even sayings... that are so pervasive in our culture... that they even infiltrate the church. ''God helps those who help themselves.'' - God didn't say that. The Bible doesn't say that. Ben Franklin said it! - It's actually... anti-Bible.

Over the next several weeks we are going to look at some ideas that are common in our culture that some may even be tempted to think are in line with God's wisdom, God's Word... but are not. They may be straight up false, or not the whole story, etc.

Just because something sounds true, sounds good, sounds wise... to your ears ... doesn't mean it is. - As Christians, we believe God's Word is the standard. What matters most is what the Bible teaches. So if somethings a common view held, but it is not what the Bible teaches... we need to dismantle the false view and understand that the Bible does teach.

Today we are going to tackle a topic that is a very common saying in our culture. - You can hear it everywhere. In fact, you may have been given this advice by a well-meaning person, or given it out yourself. - But... it's not biblical. It's not the way Christians are called to live.

If you are not a Christian... this saying... is one of humanities... biggest problems.


''Follow your heart.'' -It really means... ''Do whatever you really want to do.''

Biblically speaking your heart is your mind, will, and emotions. It's the inner you. The core of who you are. - That's what most mean I think when they say this.

''Just follow yourself, do what you really want to do.''

We see this applied to: Moral choices, relationships, decision making, sexuality.


Here is the DANGER - The problem of humanity, is the problem of the heart.
