Hebrews 8:1-13


In Hebrews 8 the writer begins to make the case that the NC is BETTER than the OC. - Jesus or Better, our Great our Superior High Priest... has a better ministry than the old priests ministry, the covenant he mediates is better... since that covenant has BETTER PROMISES.

These better promises of this better covenant... tell us a lot about Christianity.

George Guthrie writes, ''Since the new covenant is true Christianity, this passage although not exhaustive, sums up the essence of what it means to be a Christian.''

So today I want to show you the better promises of the New Covenant and how that ultimately shows us the beauty and power of real Christianity.

ILLUS. - Have you ever broke a promise? I'm betting you have. Ever had someone break one to you? Sure you have. -And it's an election year... so everyone is making you promises right now... about your health care, your finances, etc. - We are used to hearing and being let down by promises. However... God always keeps His promises. God never says... ''Well, It just wasn't within my power to keep that one.'' - YOU CAN COUNT ON GOD'S PROMISES.


Heb. 8:1-5- Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. 5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, ''See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.''
