Faith is a word that gets thrown around a lot in our culture. - We say, ''I'm a person of faith.'' ''What faith are you?'' - ''Hey man, you gotta have faith.'' ''Keep the faith!'' ''Don't lose faith!''

Your team is down a TD with 3 min. to go and the ball... Believe! Keep the faith!

Big day at work, project due... your spouse say ''I got faith in you!''

Faith is a big part of our vernacular.

This is an important word. And sometimes people mean different things by it...

When applied in a religious context... someone might mean... just believing something, believing in something... in sort of a generic way, in sort of a generic god.

Faith is critical to the Christian life. - All through the Bible in both the OT and the NT we read about faith. I heard someone say years ago, ''Faith is the funnel through which God pours His blessings.'' - Listen, we can't know God, walk with God, honor God, even please God without faith. - Faith is CRITICAL. So we need to understand it.

Without faith we are lost, unforgiven, unbelieving, separated, condemned.

We need faith... but not just any faith, we need to walk in the faith the Bible calls us to.

In Hebrews 11 the author gives us the most well-known chapter in the book. I plan to spend the next two weeks in it. It's been called the ''Hall of Faith.'' This week I want to take the first 7 verses, and help us understand faith. Next time I want us to talk about what it looks like to live by faith.



Hebrews 11:1-7 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
