Hebrews 13:1-25
I love the song... ''Oh Come All Ye Faithful'' that we opened with this morning. - ''Oh Come let us adore Him'' - We are to be a people... that ADORE Jesus. Adore can mean to love... or to worship. - We love and worship King Jesus.
In Matthew 2 we read about the wise men's visit to see Jesus as a small child...
Matt. 2:11- And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
However, let us not fall into the trap of thinking adoring Jesus... is merely about thinking nice thoughts and saying nice things about Him. Worshipping Jesus ... worshipping God... is about more than what we say, or the motions we go through. - It's gets down to the nitty gritty of how we live.
This Christmas... don't fall into the trap of being sentimental about Jesus instead of worshipful of Jesus.... of being reflective but not obedient. - The baby in the manger, grew up to be the man on the cross that then rose from the dead. He is the risen King and He is worthy of our worship today. We are to worship Him with our LIVES.
Today we are finishing our study in Hebrews. - It is a theologically rich book. Chapter 13 is very practical about living that theology out.
Remember - Hebrews is written to Jewish Christians. They have been persecuted to some degree and some of them are considering retreating from the Christian faith back to Judaism.
Throughout the book the author extols Jesus as BETTER... He's the better High Priest, the better sacrifice, He enacts a new and better covenant.
In Chapter 12:18-28 he contrasts the NC with the Old showing how the NC is superior. He warns of the coming Judgment... and how if those in the OT that didn't heed God's voice didn't escape ... neither will those today. A day of earth shakin ...
