Human beings are EMOTIONAL creatures. (Sometimes movies, sports, music... can stir that. Sometimes life events... weddings, births can stir them. Sometimes trials and pain can effect that.) -In all of our lives we have experienced fear, sadness, happiness, anger and a host of other emotions. If we are not careful our emotions can get the better of us... they can even dominate our lives, our choices.
ILLUS. - There are is a lot of things going on out there to stoke fear... maybe you've heard there is a virus. That's the obvious one. Maybe you've seen some of the anarchy and violence in places like Portland, there is the economy and jobs, election ... then there is murder hornets ... 2020 has been weird right? -Temptation to fear is all around.
In the 90's there was a t-shirt brand that was popular for a while called ''No Fear.'' -They'd have a slogan on them like, ''The older I get the better I was. No fear'' - ''You let up, you lose. No fear. It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end. No fear'' - So if you had to make a No Fear t-shirt for 2020 it might say... ''It's not the 'Rona that keeps me up at night. It's the aliens. No fear.'' It's been a weird year.
I'm betting you have experienced some differing emotions during this weird season. - You've probably been angry, at times a little fearful... you may have wrestled with sadness or depression even. - It's because you are human being. - You are not created to live this way.
Today I want to talk a little about FEAR. I googled ''fear and the pandemic'' this week and 3.65 million results came up. -I want to remind you this morning the most common command in the Bible is DO NOT FEAR or FEAR NOT. - God invites us throughout the Scriptures to come to Him, to trust Him... to fear not and He tells us His people... ''for I am with you.'' Today, I want to point you to Jesus in the mid ...
