Today I want to talk about something that is more than an emotion... that is Christian Joy. I say it's more than an emotion because JOY in the Christian life is something you can have... even when you are sad. You can be filled with sorry but still have joy. You can be sad and have something to rejoice in.
We understand that Christian joy can be complex. The world is broken. We are sinners. People sin against us. We get hurt, we suffer. - At times we are sad. However, in the midst of all this we can live with JOY.
Today I want to share some characteristics of Christian joy from the book of Philippians. Here's why... The Christian life should be a joy filled life ... and if our live is filled with these characteristics I believe we can live with joy.
Paul wrote Philippians and he did so from PRISON. - Think about that... Paul is in imprison and the book he mentions joy the most in is produced. He mentions joy 14 times, someone pointed out its 3.5 times per chapter as oppose to an avg. of .5 per chapter in his other writings. - He is overflowing with JOY... FROM A PRISON CELL.
I don't know about you, but I can learn from a man like that! - Listen... circumstances in our country are not great.
