Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty
Jerry Watts
2 Corinthians 3:17
(Quote text and theme) It was almost 9 months ago that I returned to Marion County, the place of my birth, to the pulpit of New Hope Baptist Church in what we Baptists have termed a ''call weekend. To others it might be called ''Candidating'', others may say a 'trial weekend'' but whatever you term it, it was the weekend that God brought us together for a time such as this.
That morning, August 16, 2020, I began the message of the day with words that are burned deeply into my spirit. Those words are, ''We are in a mess.'' As a country, culture, and communities, we are in a mess. All anyone has to do is watch the media, hearing the shouting and name calling to know we are in trouble as a country.
As a culture, we have now entered the age of being upside down in our belief system. In hindsight, 1996 should have been a wakeup call for God's people when Pastor Joe Wright was castigated for daring to pray scripture and spiritual truths before the Kansas legislature. Do you remember those words? In part, He prayed, ''Woe to those who call evil good, but that what we have done, we have lost our spiritual equilibrium and have inverted ourselves.'' For those who recall, his prayer set off a fire storm which continues today, as this culture continues to descend into the abyss.
Sadly, in our communities, we see things like crime, drugs, prejudice, sensuality, immorality, and more on the rise as we continue to abandon the God of our Fathers and better said, the God of the Bible.
The fact that our country, culture, and communities are in trouble IS NOT the root cause of this present dilemma. The reason we are in such trouble today is this, ''In American history, (I don't believe) there has ever been a day or a time when people have been so far from God.'' We have been so blessed for so long that we have all but forgotten the ''GOD of our FATHER (the Bible).''
