Intro/Attention
This morning, we are finishing up our series entitled, Because He Lives. We have talked about the life, hope, joy, and peace we can have because Jesus is alive. The resurrection of Jesus Christ changes everything. And because Jesus is alive, our lives can be changed.
This morning, I want you to find Colossians 3:1-4 in your Bible and I want you to know that Because He Lives…You Can Have Purpose! And when I talk about your purpose, I mean you can know the reason for which God created you. You can know why God put you on this earth. READ TEXT
People look in all sorts of places to find fulfilment and purpose. They look to fortune or fame. Popularity and pleasure. But the more you examine the human condition the more you’ll begin to realize, the things of this world simply do not satisfy. Multiple examples abound.
*For example, I recently spoke to a coach who is at the top of his career. He recently won a championship. When I asked how it felt he said, “It’s great, but people still aren’t satisfied. All the fans talk about is winning the next championship.” Sounds a little bit like someone who has discovered the things of this world only provide temporary satisfaction and fulfillment. Two contemporary celebrities who seemed to have everything have shared a similar truth. First, Thom Yorke, front-man of the band Radiohead, said, “I thought when I got to where I wanted to be, everything would be different. I'd be somewhere else. I thought it'd be all white fluffy clouds. And then I got there. And I'm still here.” When the interviewer asked, “Why, in the end, have you done what you've done?” Yorke replied, “It's filling the hole, that's all anyone does.” “What happens to the hole?” the interviewer said. After a long pause, Yorke said, “It's still there.” More recently, when NBA superstar Kevin Durant was asked about his spike in technical fouls and e ...
