A Tale of Two Churches (3 of 18)
Series: Unfinished - Acts
Tim Badal
Acts 2:42-47
We'll be focusing on two things in this series. First, we want to go to Scripture to ask, ''How did the people of God respond to the commands He gave through the words of Jesus and through the writings of the prophets and apostles? How did they live life, through both good times and bad?'' The book of Acts also helps us understand how the church operated, going from a small group of people to a movement that would change the world-and is even changing the world today. What was important to them? What were they careful to do week in and week out?
Second, we need to realize that in a sense the book of Acts isn't finished. There is still work to be done. As long as we still have shooting rampages going on in our streets, as long as we have children being killed through abortion, as long as we see brothers and sisters fighting and families broken and marriages torn apart, we know that Acts is not done. People still need to find their Savior; they need followers of Christ to tell them what it means to be a disciple and experience the everlasting grace of Jesus Christ.

But the work of sharing the gospel with a lost generation in a lost world has been left unfinished. We have unfinished work in our neighborhoods, in our communities, in our nation and in the world. God has called Village Bible Church-along with many, many other local churches-to take up that mantle and serve God in this generation for His glory.
Today we come to Acts 2:42-47, a passage I think I've taught on two or three other times here. It's a famous text that many of you are well aware of and maybe can even recite. It tells us the key characteristics of that healthy and vibrant church that was birthed on the day of Pentecost. What were they doing? What was the leadership li ...
