On Your Mark, Get Set...GO!

Hebrews 12:1-3
The Hebrew writer reminds us that we are in a race. After we complete our tour of the Hall of Faith museum in Hebrews 11, we are marched to the starting gate, the writer shouts the instructions, raises the starter's pistol, and we are ready to run.
The ancient Athenian games held a race every year where a torch was lit and the runners would set off with their torches lit. The winner of the race was not the runner who crossed the finish line first, but the runner who crossed the line with his torch still lit.
Not a SPRINT - SEASON
Not a MOMENT - MARATHON
Not a LEAP - LIFE
When it comes to this race, many are like the airplane pilot who came on the loudspeaker and said, ''Ladies and gentlemen, I want you to know that our navigational equipment has malfunctioned. We don't know where we are; and, we don't know where we're going, but we're making excellent time.''
Sadly, that summarizes the lives of many churches, as well as Christians. They don't know where they are, don't know where they're going, but they think everything is just fine.
We have Jogging for Jesus on Monday, Bowling for Blessings on Tuesday, Scrapbooking for Saints on Wednesday, Weight-lifting and Weight-loosing on Thursday, Ball for All on Friday, Cookouts for Christians on Saturday, and duets with sermonettes for Christianettes who smoke cigarettes and live like majorettes on Sunday.
If you are going to run this race, the writer tells us:
1) WHAT We Must LOSE!
A) That Which BURDENS Us
''every weight''
PICTURE: Runner removing every encumbrance/hindrance
Past FEELINGS - Past FEARS - Past FAILURES
Alcohol to Appetite - Bottle to Bitterness
Depression to Deception - Lying to Laziness
Unbelief to Unforgiveness - Worry to Worldliness
You will NEVER have the strength to CARRY ON what God said to LAY DOWN
B) That Which BINDS Us
''the sin which doth so easily beset us''
BESET - ''to wrap arou ...
