Isaiah 55:8
OUTLINE:
GOD’S WAYS ARE HIGHER THAN MINE
GOD’S WAYS LEAD ME TO A HIGHER LIFE
Several months ago, Gena and I took the kids skiing. Whenever you take little kids skiing it's always crazy, because there's poles, skis, goggles, and all kinds of stuff everywhere. We pulled up to the little unload zone, where you can dump your stuff off, and then you go park your car. We got all of our stuff out, finally, and had the skis in the ski rack. I said to my little boy, "Now, you stand right here until I go park the car. Don't move." Well, guess what he did? He moved. He decided that he wanted to go back to the car.
He cut through through the 5 minute parking zone. Most cars were coming in and coming out. Right as he passed the car next to us, there was this Colorado ski bum type dude in his little station wagon. He couldn't even see out the windows because of all the grit and the grime that was all over the windows. All of a sudden, the guy presses on the accelerator, and I'm watching all of this unfold right before me, and there's nothing I can do. I have stuff all over me, and I can't get there quick enough. They guy backs out really quick and he drives off. He was just inches away from running over my little boy. He couldn't see him. He wasn't paying attention. I was frustrated with the driver of the station wagon, the ski dude, because he wasn't watching where he was going. I was also frustrated with my little boy, because he didn't do what I told him to do. I pulled him aside afterwards and I said, "Zayne, listen. Sometimes your dad asks you to do things that I don't have time to explain to you. And even if I could explain it to you, you probably wouldn't even understand it, but I've got your best interest at heart. So, when your dad asks you to do something; there's a reason."
I think that's a beautiful picture of our relationship with God. Sometimes God asks us to do thin ...
