Today I want to talk to you about our fears. I believe this: What we fear and those we fear will have an amazing impact on our lives. Oftentimes fear is a negative thing. It's a destructive thing. It's a challenging thing. But fear can be a positive thing in our life, too.

Fear is funny. I remember taking my little boy on his first trip to the Easter Bunny at the mall. He was three years old, and he screamed bloody murder. It was like I had taken him and sat him in the lap of Freddy Krueger. Utter pandemonium.

We're afraid of some funny things. Kids have all kinds of fears. Adults have fears, too.
I was talking with Gena about one of her fears. She remembers, in second grade, she went to a high school play about Dracula. She was terrorized for the next three or four years of her life. She still sleeps with the covers pulled up over her neck, just in case Dracula is in the neighborhood.

I've had some fears in my life, too. One of my fears is that I'm going to get up here and preach a sermon to you that's five minutes long. I know, many of you are thinking, ''Oh, Pastor, we never worry about that.'' As a college student, for the very first sermon I preached at a church, the pastor said to me, ''Ryan, you have to preach for thirty minutes, because we have this on live TV broadcast.'' First sermon. College student. He said, ''Whatever you do, just don't stop.''
