Shortly after moving to a small-town north of San Francisco in 1988, Dianne Hales found a note in her mailbox from a neighbor who had noticed her swing set in back yard. The note read, ''We're so happy to have more children in the neighborhood.
Would you please come for tea?'' Signed Rhonda Anderson.

A few days later, Dianne and her two-year-old daughter, Julia, made their way down a brick-lined path into a new relationship.
In the nine years since, Dianne and Rhonda have become Ethel
to Lucy and Laverne to Shirley. At first, they seemed unlikely candidates for such an enduring relationship because Rhonda is a stay-at-home mom who loves to bake and Dianne is a confessed workaholic. Besides that, difference Rhonda is a natural athlete while Dianne loves the opera and ballet.

Yet, their friendship has grown - because of how much they have shared together. They have taken their children to the circus and the county fair along with going to the mall. But it has been the
times that they have had to lean on each other that have really strengthened their friendship. When storms knocked out the electric power their families huddled together by candlelight.

Once, when Dianne briefly left her 10-year-old daughter home alone she returned to find her cuddled in Rhonda's arms.
''I felt sick, so I called Rhonda,'' her daughter explained.

Isn't it interesting that when God made Adam one of the first things that came up was a companion for him so that he would
not be alone? We are made to have fellowship with other people.
Genesis 2:18 The Lord said, ''It is not good that the man
should be alone; I will make a helper for him.''

We could put our Friendships into three different classes:
1. Casual friends - with whom you share a common interest,
You share a hobby, or sport and regularly spend time together.

2. Close friends - with whom you can share your ...
