I’m in a three-part series leading up to Eater Sunday. It’s a series designed to help us recenter and refocus. Over the last year, the pandemic has thrown many of us for a loop. We got out of our routines, many quit coming to church, and many who come to church are now much less committed.
So, I took my word for the year – one word that God placed on my heart at the beginning of 2021 – and decided to call this series Rebuild: reignite, reconnect, reengage. Last week we looked at Psalm 66 and I challenged you to Reignite Your Passion for Worship. Today, we’ll be in Psalm 92 as we study this subject, Reconnect With the People of God. Next week I will conclude this series with a message entitled, Reengage in Serving and Sharing. READ Psalm 92:1-15
*If living through the pandemic this past year has taught us anything, it has shown us that we need each other. Human beings are created to live in community, not in isolation. Since COVID arrived and the lockdowns began in the spring of 2020, depression and anxiety in America have become rampant. Federal surveys show that 40% of Americans are now grappling with at least one mental health or drug-related problem. But young adults have been hit harder than any other age group, with 75% struggling. Even more alarming, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently asked young adults if they had thought about killing themselves in the past 30 days, 1 in 4 said they had. These numbers have more than doubled in the last two years. Suicidal thoughts are not the only sign of a crisis. Other maladies bubble up first – alcohol consumption, drug use, anxiety, depression, domestic violence. All of them elevate suicide risk.
