It All Comes Out in the Wash
Steve Wagers
1 Corinthians 6:11
A young couple moved into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbor hanging her wash to dry. ''That laundry is not very clean,'' she said. ''She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.'' Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor hung her wash to dry, the young woman repeated her observations about the dirty laundry.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: ''Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this?''
The husband said, ''I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.''
Paul is reminding the Corinthian believers of WHERE they were, WHO they were, and WHAT they were before GRACE did ERASE their sins.
''Washed'' - Not talking about LAUNDRY - SIN
SHOUT couldn't GET OUT
Tide couldn't CLEAN it
Bleach couldn't WHITEN it
We couldn't be REFORMED - We had to be TRANSFORMED
The day I came to God in repentance and faith, the blood of Jesus was applied, and blessed be God, it all came out in the wash.
1) The CORRUPTED Life PRIOR to Salvation!
A) A LOST Condition (9-10)
The REASON for our lost condition - ''UNRIGHTEOUS''
No one had to teach us how to sin
WE SIN BECAUSE WE'RE SINNERS
The RESULT of our lost condition - ''NOT INHERIT KINGDOM''
B) A LOWLY Condition (10)
Our CONDITION was manifested in our CONDUCT
All men are DEAD! Dead is dead. Some more DECAYED than others
All of us were UNRIGHTEOUS. Some just more OBVIOUS than others
2) The CHANGED Life PRODUCED by Salvation!
(11) Thank God for the word ''WERE''
Past Tense - Not what we used to be. A change has taken place
A) POSITIONALLY (11)
''JUSTIFIED'' - Positional - I'M IN HIM - HE'S IN ME
He's in me ON THIS SIDE - I'm in Him ON THAT SIDE
(Reciprocal Indwelling)
