Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior
Steve Wagers
Mark 10:46-52
The name Fanny Crosby is synonymous with music, particularly the hymns of the faith. Blind from the age of 5, she wrote more than 600 hymns including such standards as ''Blessed Assurance,'' ''Rescue the Perishing,'' ''Safe In The Arms of Jesus.'' Perhaps her most famed, and beloved hymn was birth out of an experience from a prison service. She travelled with William Donne to a prison in Lower Manhattan. After the service, she heard one of the prisoners cry out, ''Good Lord, don't pass me by!'' Those words kept ringing in her ears all through the night. She penned the words:
Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior.
Hear my humble cry.
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Mark 10 - Jesus is passing by/thru the city of Jericho.
This would be the LAST time He ever came through Jericho. Had Bartimaues not cried out, he never would have received what he needed.

A) BLIND and HELPLESS (46)
Being blind, he was completely dependent on the help of others to lead/guide him.
In our past state, we were BLIND and HELPLESS. The Gospel was hid to us. We were in darkness. We could not help ourselves.
Hank Williams Sr. wrote ''I Saw the Light.'' Near the end of his life he cried, ''There's ain't no light!'' ''There ain't no light!''
I well remember the days when there was no light.
B) BROKE and HOPELESS
He's a blind beggar. Physically blind/Financially bankrupt. His only hope was for others to have pity on him, and show him mercy.
Before God found us, we were spiritually bankrupt. Dead in trespasses and sins. We had NOTHING to offer God.
When I came to Jesus - I GAVE HIM NOTHING
When Jesus came to me - HE GAVE ME EVERYTHING
2) His PAINFUL DESPERATION!
A) The CRITICS that SURROUNDED Him (48)
Religious crowd didn't like shouting then - they STILL DON'T LIKE IT NOW
