William Carey, known as the ''father of modern missions,'' arrived in India in 1793 with a burden to reach the natives with the Gospel. For 7 years he preached the Gospel faithfully week after week, month after month, without a single native converted to Christ. Rather than growing discouraged, Carey wrote:

''I feel as a farmer does about his crop; sometimes I think the seed is springing, and thus I hope; a little blast al, and my hopes are gone like a cloud. Yet, I still hope in God, and will go forth in His strength, and make mention of His righteousness.''

In May 2001, Erik Weihenmayer accomplished something that only about 150 people per year do - reaching the top of Mt. Everest. Erik was born with a disease called 'retinoschisis,' and by the time he was thirteen he was completely blind. Thus, the thing that made Erik's achievement unusual is that he is the first blind person to succeed in scaling the tallest mountain in the world.

I'm sure at this season of David's life, he felt like giving up.

He's leaving the city that he loved/ruled for 33 years. He kept going.

(1) ''a couple of asses saddled''
(2) ''to ride on''

He wouldn't have to walk anymore. God had provided timely transportation that brought relief. They jumped on board!
