What Are You Expecting to Fill You? (4 of 4)
Series: Underwater

Jonah 4:1-11
Big Idea:
Something that breaks the heart of God will not fill yours.
Intro:
Have you ever been underwater? More specifically, have you ever been submerged or experience flooding? We'll dive into a story of a man who was underwater literally, emotionally, and spiritually. We'll learn how God is actually in control of our lives even when we are underwater. We'll learn how to get to the surface and experience peace in our relationship with God and others.
Each week we'll cover a chapter in the true story of Jonah.
Our first week in chapter 1, we talked how disobedience always starts with a choice. We discovered as we walked through the first chapter of Jonah that disobedience leads to descent and depression and comes with collateral damage. Yet no matter how far you are from God grace is always available.
Our second week in chapter 2, we learned that that our disobedience can never outrun or overpower God's grace. We'll find that a follower of Jesus is not only a receiver of grace but a product of grace.
Last week in chapter 3, we found Jonah arriving in Nineveh. After everything he experienced so far in this true story, he reluctantly obeyed and preached a heartless message. We saw how the people of Nineveh respond to a five-word sermon from a reluctant prophet, who wanted their city to burn.
This week in chapter 4, Jonah is angry and we find the reason why he disobeyed in the first place.
Tension:
Have you experience a tailspin? A moment created intentional or unintentionally followed by moments where life spins out of control on a downward trajectory and ends in a crash. By bringing this up, I'm not attempting to create any unnecessary flashbacks for our military friends and family. One of stories that quickly comes to mind is Blackhawk Down.
I'm convinced that we experience relational, financial, emotional, and spiritual tailspins.
