John 15:1-17
I. Introduction
Welcome to Mission Hills. I'm so glad you're here, because I believe that God has something powerful to say to you today from His word.
I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel this lamp, right? Like, I know what it's supposed to do, but sometimes I just don't feel like I have what it takes to do it. Sometimes my job needs something from me and I don't feel like I have what it takes to give it. Sometimes my wife needs something from me and I don't feel like I have what it takes to give it. Sometimes my kids need something from me and I don't feel like I have what it takes to give it. Sometimes my mom needs something from me and I don't feel like I have what it takes to give it.
Sometimes what's being demanded of us is unreasonable...but a lot of times it's not...but we just don't feel like we have what it takes. And there's two reasons for that. Sometimes we had it...but we spent it where it wasn't needed. And sometimes we spent it where it was needed, but we've just run out of it.
And it doesn't really matter today which one of those is leaving you feeling depleted. The real question today is what do I have to do to get more of what I need? What do I have to do to get replenished?
Anybody here feel like you need replenishing? That you need to get filled up again?

And the point he's making is pretty simple: he's saying that all of the branches and all the grapes that they produce...they're all connected to the vine. Their life is contingent on their connection to the vine. They don't have life on their own...their life is a consequence of their connection, right? Like, you don't go to the store and buy a bag of grapes and take them home and put them on the counter and kind of forget about them and then come back a week ...
