If you've ever talked to a collector and been privileged to see their collection, whether it be baseball cards, antiques, cars, sports memorabilia, art, toys, figurines or stamps, you know they are proud of their collection. While they love and prize each piece of that collection, there is always one item that is near and dear to their hearts above all the rest because of its sentimental value, it's very personal to them in some way, or because of its rarity, which makes it more valuable than all the others.

When it comes to God's great collection, this vast universe and all it contains, there is a part of that collection whose value and worth far exceeds all others and that God prizes above all others...humanity...us.

In Genesis 1 we find God creating and He saves His most prized creation for last. Genesis 1.26-27 - Then God said, ''Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'' 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, ''Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.''

We were made in the image of God. It is a honor and privilege given only to mankind. Charles Swindoll writes, ''Because of this, only human life can walk and talk and fellowship with the Creator. Animals cannot. Fish cannot. Plants cannot. Only humans can enjoy this privilege because they alone possess God's image.''

For that reason, life is precious. Life is valuable. Life is sacred. We bear the image of God. That image is not to be devalued, diminished, dismissed or destroyed no mat ...
