Intro/Attention
This morning, we continue our series entitled, Supernatural: spiritual warfare and the battle for eternity. I began this series by reminding you that we are in a spiritual battle, an invisible war. Last week, I told you that you have an enemy who wants to destroy your life. The Bible says he ''prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.'' Today, we come to Ephesians 6:12 and I'm preaching a sermon entitled, Satan and His Demons. READ TEXT
When Satan fell he did not fall alone. Revelation 12:4 tells us that he took one third of the angels with him. The Bible tells us that there are ''myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands'' of holy angels. But we don't know the exact number. In fact, the word ''myriad'' in the Greek means ''ten thousand'' but it was the largest number the language could express. There are probably too many angels to count.
Here, the Bible tells us that Satan's army of demons is highly organized. We struggle against ''rulers...authorities...cosmic powers....[and] the spiritual forces of evil...'' *People often ask me if I believe there is a global conspiracy of evil organizations trying to gain control of the world. Is there such a conspiracy on a human level? I have no idea. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist. However, the Bible tells us that there is an unseen spiritual global conspiracy involving demons in high places, and many humans in earthly organizations are unwitting participants in it. The Old Testament says that the gods of the nations are demons. In 1 John 5:19, we are told ''The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.'' (ON SCREEN) Satan is ''the god of this world,'' and so he controls much of what occurs in the events of this world.*
