The Church at Smyrna (3 of 6)
Series: The 7 Churches of Revelation
Jordan Easley
Revelation 2:8-11
This morning we're continuing from the book of Revelation in the series we're calling SEVEN... and the reason we're calling it that is because in the book of Revelation, there are seven literal churches that God addresses.
Now, to review... this book was written by John. If you'll remember, John was one of Jesus' 12 disciples and he was there for his entire ministry.
He was there after Jesus rose from the grave and he walked with Jesus for 40 days after the resurrection, watching Jesus preach and teach... John was there the entire time... until Jesus ascended back to Heaven.
Once that happened, John became a great leader for the early church. He planted churches and traveled and preached... even though the persecution was great. He watched his best friends be killed - dying horrible deaths because of their faith in Christ, and yet they couldn't kill John.
The authorities decided instead to exile John to the island of Patmos... and so, as a 100-year-old man, that's where we find him. He's sitting on this island all alone and he's having a face-to-face conversation with Jesus.
And Jesus tells him, ''I've got some things I need to tell these churches so get out your pencil and a piece of paper and write these things down.''
The way Jesus chose to communicate the message to these churches was like this: Jesus ? John ? Messenger (Angel) ? Church

• I know your DEEDS (got a lot of good things going on)
• I know your HARD WORK (your church members work hard)
• I know your PERSEVERANCE (you're doing ministry in a difficult spot and you're pressing on with great perseverance)
• You have GOOD DOCTRINE (you've rejected false teaching and ...
