Leviticus 23.33-44
As you're turning to Leviticus 23, I hope by now you've discovered that the seven feasts of Israel are not merely for our learning, but for our living. God wants us living out these feasts! Don't think that these seven feasts were only for the Jews to live out, but now through Jesus, they are ours to live out.
Learn this: both the Old Testament and New Testament have the same focus: JESUS! Listen to the words of Jesus in John 5.39-40, ''You pore over the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them, and yet they testify about me. 40 But you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.''
What scriptures was Jesus talking about? The Old Testament! He goes on to say in verses 46-47, ''For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me. 47 But if you don't believe what he wrote, how will you believe my words?''
So, who was Moses writing about? JESUS! The Old Testament tells us what's going to happen whereas the New Testament tells us what's happened and will happen! St. Augustine was correct when he said,
''The New is in the Old contained;
the Old is by the New explained.''
And what a feast we've enjoyed these last seven weeks in feasting on the feasts! We began with those four Spring feasts that Jesus fulfilled in His first coming: Jesus died on Passover, buried on Unleavened Bread, arose on Firstfruits and gave birth to His church fifty days later during the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost).
As wonderful and exciting those first four Spring feasts are that were fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus causing us to say, ''Lord, we thank You;'' JUST AS wonderful and exciting are the last three Fall feasts, that will be fulfilled in the second coming of Jesus causing us to say, ''Lord, we trust You.''
