Simple Reminder

Mark 14:17-24
William Tyndale translated the Bible into English so the people could read the Bible in their own language. The NT was first printed in 1525, but was stopped by the police. So he moved to
Antwerp, Belgium where sympathetic English merchants protected and helped him to continue to print the Bible and smuggle it in boxes, in barrels, in bales of cloth and in bags of grain, back to England where they were delivered throughout the country.
For years plots had been made to arrest Tyndale, but to no success.
King Henry VIII hired Henry Phillips to gain Tyndale's friendship
which he did, even living in the same house. As they went to dinner one night, he arranged for the sheriff's officers to arrest
Tyndale by pointing him out with his finger behind his back.
After spending 17 months in prison he was condemned to die.
On Friday October 6, 1536 he was bound to a stake, first he was strangled and then his body was burned to ashes outside Brussels. His dying prayer was, ''Lord, open the king of England's eyes.''
Betrayal is the act of giving someone who trusts you into the hand of their enemy. It is to violate the trust someone has in you.
Lamentations 1:2 All Jerusalem's friends (nations who supported
her) have betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
1:19 I called to my allies but they betrayed (ESV deceived) me.
The leaders believed the other nations would help defend her.
Betrayal is an ugly word because you have been misled, deceived,
double-crossed, trapped and tricked into believing a lie because
the person you trusted turned against you.
It takes a long period of time to build trust and a friendship,
but only a moment to betray someone or to be betrayed.
Charles Spurgeon - ''We are indeed, afflicted when our former friend becomes our relentless foe, when confidence is betrayed.''
