Prayer (1 of 7)
Series: Being What Jesus Died For
Jerry Watts
Acts 2:42-47, Acts 3:1-26
Let's Pray. There seems to be a weird phenomenon going on among God's people today. It hasn't just begun. It's actually been going on as long as I can remember. I say it's weird because it's different from what the Bible shows us about those who trust in, believe in, and follow Christ. They prayed and expected God to respond. The weird thing for us is this; Too often, we pray and expect little and are surprised when God's comes through. When the Sherwood Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia, was making the movie ''Fireproof'', the day came for them to make that very intense 'train scene'. Arriving on location with an old car, they discovered they needed a forklift. The professional huddled to see how much it might cost and how much time they might lose over this issue. The church members/actors gathered in a circle and prayed, BELIEVING. When they finished praying, a man walked up, identifying himself as a neighbor. His question was, ''Do you need a forklift? I have one next door.'' He came, assisted, and drove away. The Hollywood professionals were in awe. The director of Photography was heard to say, ''Amazing. What are the odds that someone next door would have exactly what we needed?'' It is amazing how many 'coincidences' occur when God's people believe and pray. They believed, they prayed, God came through because prayer was not a one-time event; it was and is a lifestyle.
Our foundational series of message is Being What Jesus Died For and will be 7 weeks long.
If you were to take the 'trip of a lifetime', you would sit and plan every part of it so that you could get the most out of it. How good would it be if that trip changed your life forever? If we stay with it, that could happen.
To be candid, my goal is for this body to become the most spiritually influential in our area. The only way for that to happen is for us to become so intimate with God that th ...
