Evangelism (3 of 7)
Series: Being What Jesus Died For
Jerry Watts
John 1:29-49
It is extremely important to your pastor that we 'connect the dots' of being a follower of Christ. Following Christ is like following someone in an automobile or through the woods, you may not know where you are going, but you can trust your leader, so you keep your eye on him. We can trust our leader, so we keep our eyes on HIM.
He lead us to: prayer - worship - evangelism - discipleship - fellowship - ministry - missions. This is the growth cycle for the individual and the church family. Jesus has saved us and brought us together to fulfill His mission and this is how that is completed.
As we look into God's word about Evangelism, we ask, ''What does this big word actually mean?'' We can unpack it from the Greek language.
The Greek word is ''eu-anggelion''
''Eu'' means ''good'' (as in ''Eulogy'' where the preacher says ''Good Words'' about the deceased)
And ''Angeelion'' (a similar word ''angel'') that means ''message''.
Literally, Evangelism means ''Good Message'' or ''Good News''
To look at Bible translations, this Greek word is never translated ''Evangelism/Evangelistic'', but rather ''GOSPEL.''
We conclude that 'evangelism' is the 'sharing of the good news.' There is no news better (GOODER) than the news of Jesus!! If to any of us, any news is better than Jesus, it reveals something about ''US.''
The question becomes, ''Why is it that prayer leads to worship?'' In prayer our hearts get in tune with His heart, touches His heart, and our heart reflects Him. The most natural response to prayer is worship because when we encounter HIM, who He is and what He's done.
Why is it that Worship leads to Evangelism? Because when something good happens to you, the most natural response is to tell it. When we get good news about anything, we tell it. We know this in life AND we know this from scripture. OUR TEXT John 1. I love to read this account.
