Discipleship (4 of 7)
Series: Being What Jesus Died For
Jerry Watt
Ephesians 4:1-32
In the beginning, God. Think about that. Everything that follows, springs from this truth, ''In the beginning, God.'' In the beginning God created the heaven, the earth, and all that is. A few days later, He created mankind and put them in a perfect world (with one rule). Just a little while later, they chose to be disobedient and sinned. Their sin broke the relationship and the fellowship they had with Holy God. God cast them out of His garden, but immediately did two things. He sacrificed an animal, covering their sin with its blood, and covering their skin with the hide of that animal. He them promised to send the SUPREME SACRIFICE, and He did, in the person, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin (miracle), lived a perfect life (miracle), died the death of a sinner (unbelievable), rose from the dead (miracle), ascended to heaven (miracle), intercedes for us at the right hand of God (amazing), and He stands ready to forgive our sin and give us new life (miracle).
What He requires of us is to respond to His invitation to salvation, that is, to put our faith and trust in Him, committing to Him, and then following Him with all that we are. Doing that, He gives us the Holy Spirit as our guide. His call to us is commitment and conviction. Our commitment to Him leads us to prayer (meeting with Him) which leads us to worship (worship is all about Him. It's not about the place, music, instruments, or anything else. It's all about our Lord, ONE FOCUS, ONE OBJECT - anything else is idolatry). From worship we are led to evangelism (one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread or one sinner inviting another sinner to the one who can help. When something good happens to you, you want to tell it.)
When evangelism occurs and people come to know the Lord, discipleship must take place. This is where we find ourselves, today, in the Christian journey, both as a people and ...
