Acts 2:42; 1 John 1:1-10
Let's Pray. Praying was the first this Christ's followers did after He ascended to heaven in Acts 1. They prayed for 10 days, then Pentecost came as the Holy Spirit fell. Prayer was their beginning point. Then the Spirit fell and worship followed. The people gathered, and Peter preach. Then evangelism naturally happened (and 3000 people were saved), then in Acts 2:42 we read, ''And they devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching (that discipleship) and the FELLOWSHIP.'' There it is! One of the powerfully attracting characteristics of the church, FELLOWSHIP. Oh yeah, ''they broke bread (ate together - they were Baptist), and they PRAYED. Do you know what else? They were together in unity and harmony. In verse 46 we read, ''Day by day (or daily), attending the temple together and breaking bread in their home, they received their food with GLAD and GENEROUS heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.'' Do you know why they gathered daily? They wanted to!
If you ask me, this is our first view of the ''CHURCH''. The lynchpin is the FELLOWSHIP. They are saved and know it, which makes the fellowship ELECTRIC. It's something people wanted and needed to be a part of. Robby Gallaty writes that fellowship is 2 fellows in a ship. A great pic!
Let me pose a question to you: ''What person in their right mind wants to attend a church full of disgruntled legalists who look like they have been baptized in prune juice or eaten green persimmons for breakfast?'' If you don't know, I'll tell you who, NOBODY! They are looking for the Joy of Jesus. People need Jesus. They need His forgiveness, love, grace, and life, but they need the Joy of Jesus. In Hebrews, we read, ''WE (the redeemed ones) are the JOY THAT WAS SET BEFORE Jesus'' - that why He went to the cross. When the fellowship inside the church ...
