Over dinner last week, my Mom told me she was having issues with the GPS in her car. It wasn't functioning the way it was supposed to function.
Well, come to find out... her GPS system is 10 years old. And as you can imagine, when you have an old car... and an old GPS... with old maps... it's probably not going to function the way you want it to function.
Over the span of 10 years, things change. Cities change. Roads change. So if your navigation system is dated, you can expect to receive archaic and irrelevant information.
That's true when it comes to a GPS system... but you know what? Many people believe the same is true when it comes to the Bible.
They think, 'The Bible is just an ancient book, written for people thousands of years ago,' and they believe 'because the Bible is old and dated, it must be irrelevant for today.'
But there couldn't be anything farther from the truth. [Hebrews 4:12] ''For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword...''
Not only is God's word 'alive' and 'relevant' and 'effective' - the Bible also says God's word is timeless.
Throughout this series, we've talked a lot about the WAZE app. And we've talked about the benefits of having a navigation system that gives LIVE UPDATES. If there's traffic on the road ahead, it will let you know it's coming and reroute you along the way. It's pretty amazing...
But you know what's even more amazing than that. The Bible doesn't need to give live updates. It never needs to change or reroute it's instruction to something else. Why? Because our God is TIMELESS and UNCHANGING. [Hebrews 13:8] Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
So what does that tell us today? It tells us that (God's instructions) the Bible applies to your life right now, and God gives you all the wisdom you need for today in His word...
