Let's open our Bibles to Mark 9. Is this statement True or False?
The Bible says: God will never give you more than you can bear? T/F?
That, indeed, is FALSE. Nowhere does the Scripture promise that God will never give us more than we can handle or bear. Then why do we hear it quoted as if it is? I think it's because the Bible almost says that.
1 Corinthians 10:13: ''No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be TEMPTED beyond what you can bear. But when you are TEMPTED He will also provide a way out so you can stand up under it.'' What's is the subject Paul is addressing here? Temptation. You'll never face a temptation so strong or so sneaky that you can say, ''Sorry God, that temptation was just more than I could bear.'' Nope. With every temptation Satan presents to you, God gives a way of escape. So we always have a choice. God will never allow you to face a temptation that you can't handle or have victory over.
But when people say God will never give you more than you can bear, they aren't talking about temptation are they? No, they're talking about hard times, difficulties, and struggles. But nowhere does God promise not to give us more pain, or problems, or more difficulties, or more hardship than we can bear. In fact, I would argue God says just the opposite. If you live long enough, you WILL experience more trouble, more grief, more pain, more hardship than you can possibly bear all by yourself.
Why? Because only when you've experienced more than YOU can handle, does it force you to rely on and trust in the Christ who can handle everything. You will experience more than YOU can handle. But you will never experience more than Christ can handle. And He lives in you. It's these times when we realize we're powerless, but He is powerful. We are weak, but He is strong.
