Let's together to the Gospel of Mark chapter 10. Divorce is one word God never intended to be heard in a marriage. Before we dive into our text today, let me say something as openly and lovingly as I possibly can. The topic of divorce elicits emotions for every one of us. I want you to know I don't preach this in judgment, or condescension, or trying to make you feel more guilty than you already do. Actually, I'm trying to do the opposite. No matter if you're married or not, divorced or not, or remarried or not, I want you to plainly understand what God's Word says, and then respond accordingly. That might mean repenting of a past divorce or cancelling an upcoming divorce. It might mean trying harder in your marriage or preparing yourself more diligently for when you are married. I don't know. I just ask that you listen with an attentive heart and open mind, and then respond however God would lead you to respond. Ok?

My job isn't to comfort you or convict you. My job is to inform and teach you. Through the teaching of His Word, God does the comforting and convicting. Amen? Ok, here we go.

Look at Mark 10:1-2 (READ). Stop there for just a moment. Jesus leaves Galilee for the last time. He has set His face toward Jerusalem where in a few short weeks He will die on the cross of Calvary as a sacrifice for sin. His trip is somewhat delayed by the crowds who gather around Him and want to hear a sermon. The Pharisee's, who hate Him, try to trip Him up. Look at verses 3-12 (READ).

There are three parts to this divorce dilemma I want you to see.



1. THE AMBUSH: DOES GOD ALLOW DIVORCE?

V2: ''The Pharisees came and asked Him, ''Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?'' testing Him.'' It sounds like an innocent question, but Mark wants us to understand their motive. This isn't a random subject, but a calculated question. Mark says they are testing Jesus ...
