Mark 10:13-16
Let's open our bibles to Mark 10. Childproofing your home is really important in order to keep your kids out of certain things. Today, Jesus teaches us something very interesting. Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of God hasn't been childproofed, but rather it's been adult-proofed.
Jesus says, ''Unless you are like a little child, you cannot enter the Kingdom of God.'' Essentially, He says, 'No adults are allowed access.' You might be thinking, 'What in the world does that mean?' Well, I'm glad you asked because that's exactly what I want to show you this morning.
Let's dig in and see (READ Mark 10:13-16).
As I studied this passage, I realized that maybe the best way to get to the heart of what Jesus is saying is to study it backwards. We need to start from the end and move our way to the beginning.
1. IDENTIFY THE POINT: What is Jesus emphasizing?
You say, ''That's easy Bob. Jesus is emphasizing that children are precious to Him. Jesus loves really, really love kids. Red, and yellow, black, and white they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves all the little children of the world.'' I mean we've even got a theme song for this passage, right?
Well, while I certainly agree Jesus completely and wholeheartedly loves children, I want you to entertain the thought that maybe that's a principle we can learn, but it's not the central point Jesus is trying to make. Remember, Jesus has been with these guys and doing ministry with them for 3 years. He's only a few weeks away from the cross from which He will hang and die as a substitute for sin. There is little doubt these guys already know He passionately and tenderly loves kids. Right? But what have the disciples consistently struggled to understand as they've listened to Jesus teach and preach the crowds?
They've struggled with:
Who truly knows and walks with God?
How does a person enter the King ...
