Mark 6:45-56
One of my favorite stories, all-time favorite stories, is about a little boy who had one line in the Easter play. One line to remember, one line to memorize, one line to say. And his line was, ''It is I, be not afraid.'' And so he memorized that, he practiced that, he said it to himself over and over. Of course, the day of the play came, and he was nervous, and he stood in the spotlight, and he looked at all the people, and his mind went black. So instead of saying, ''It is I, be not afraid,'' he said, ''It's me, and I'm scared to death.''
If you have lived very long at all, you know how that feels, right? All of us are put in situations and circumstances where we have a choice: We can be controlled by fear, or we can walk by faith. We have a choice. We can be controlled by hear, or we can walk by faith. And those turbulent times, where every single one of us walk through at different times of our live, often we call them storms. All of us go through storms. We don't get to choose whether or not we'll go through them, we simply get to choose how we get through them.
We can cling to the Savior, or we can kind of cower to the storm. But it's our choice. So today, in this text, the last part of chapter 6, we're going to look at Jesus in the storms. Jesus, in particular, your storms. Where is Jesus in your storms? Who is Jesus in your storms? What does Jesus do in your storms, what does Jesus want you to do in your storms? That's what this text really is all about in trying to minister to us and talk to us about. So we're going to see that in Mark chapter 6, verses 45-56.
As we get in this, before I dig in, let me just say this because I think it's very important for us to understand. Faith is not natural to us. Have you noticed that? Faith does not come naturally. Worry is natural. Anxiety is natural. Fear is natural, discouragement is natural, thinking someone else ha ...
