If you remember your bible, open it up to Mark chapter 8. Today we're talking about the sin of forgetfulness. Some of you are thinking, ''Man, I'm so forgetful that I didn't even remember that forgetfulness is a sin.'' Well, before you get down into that, hold on just a second - not every time you're forgetful are you being sinful. We all have our moments, right, we all forget things. We forget a lunch meeting, we forget a doctor's appointment, we forget our wife's birthday, we forget our wedding anniversary, we forget a child at church and have to go back for them - hypothetically speaking on all of those.

And so, even the best of us, we forget things. We are forgetful. But while some forgetfulness is normal, other forgetfulness is evil. While some forgetfulness is just absent-mindedness, some is due to hard-heartedness. It's not just negligence, it's disobedience. And really, that's what we're going to aim in on, that's the crosshairs for which we're going to talk about today. That's the forgetfulness that we really need to zero in on and say, ''We have to rid ourselves of that kind in our life.''

As parents, we get this, we understand this type of forgetfulness, because we hear it from our children quite regularly. What is the response, what is the excuse that is given when your child does not clean up their room when you've told them two thousand times, or when they don't finish their homework before they start the video games, or when they bring home someone of the opposite sex when you're not there and they know they're not supposed to. What is the response that you often get when that happens? ''I forgot.'' Do you ever get tired of hearing that?

Now, sometimes, they did. Sometimes, they simply forgot. They've got a lot going on in their young lives, they've got hormones friend stuff, they've got stuff, so they simply forgot, and because you're a wise pare ...
