All right, let's get started, Mark chapter 9. We are past the halfway point; we are now in Mark chapter 9, and right out of the gate, right from the beginning, I want to give you what has kind of been pounding on my heart and driving and shaping my mind for this message. This phrase and this sentence has been going over and over and over again in my mind this week. It kind of shapes this whole message. The key thought is this: When you get to the point you think you have Jesus figured out, just know you're wrong. And that really has just been going over and over and over in my mind. When you think you have Jesus figured out, just know you're wrong.
I hope this isn't you, but I do think that there are many, many Christians who have been Christians for a long time - they're just bored with Jesus. They don't say that, but their life would reflect that. How? They don't go deeper, they don't push harder, they don't pursue more, they don't grow wiser. They're no longer amazed, they're no longer astounded. You've heard me say many times that many people have gotten saved and gotten over it. I worry about that. I worry about that. You say, I'm glad that's not me, because I'm definitely not there. What no longer excites you, what no longer grips you, what no longer intrigues you, what no longer challenges you, what no longer stretches you, what no longer grips you to go farther, actually bores you. I just think that many of us are bored with Jesus.
You say, again, that's not me. Let me ask you - when was the last time that you experienced something with Jesus or learned something about Jesus that absolutely shook you to your core. You were absolutely astounded, it blew you away when you experienced this with Christ, when you learned this about Christ, you couldn't, it blew you away. You experienced such awe of the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor of Jesus ...
