Mark 2:13-17

All right, let's take our bibles and turn to Mark chapter 2. One of the cutest and funniest conversations I've ever had as a pastor was a little 6-year-old girl who came in to talk about baptism. She wanted to be baptized. And we were sitting there, talking, and obviously I wanted her to understand everything, what it meant to be baptized, and I told her before someone gets baptized, something else has to happen first. And I told her about the gospel and repenting of sin, and I didn't want that to be some ''Christian phrase,'' ''repent of sin,'' that she wouldn't understand at 6 years old, so I started inquiring, and asked her, ''Have you ever done anything that you knew was wrong?'' And she looked and she looked around and she slowly raised one finger and whispered, ''Once.'' It was the sweetest thing ever. You ever done anything wrong? Once.

I've found, even as adults, that we don't often realize just how big of sinners we really are. And the reason for that is because we both classify and categorize sin and sinners. We think that there are some sins, we wouldn't probably say it, but we do believe that there are some sins that are deeper, darker, and dirtier than others, and therefore, those who commit those kinds of sins are more depraved sinners than us. Adolf Hitler, or you?'' Don't say it out loud. Or think of the worst pedophile, a serial pedophile, and you. Who's the bigger sinner?

Now again, we probably, if we've been Christians for a long time, we know the right answer, but in our heart of hearts, you know what we think? They're the bigger sinner. They've got to be, right? Think about, killing millions of people or preying on little children, that's really bad. And there' ...
