Series Introduction: I've been blessed and fortunate to have many times traveled to Europe. I love history and so I love touring the remnants and footprints of civilizations that have preceded our own, whether it be Roman ruins, 13th-century castles, or Stone Age burial mounds. But perhaps my favorite thing to tour are cathedrals. This here is one of the more ''modest'' cathedrals in Europe, the cathedral of Canterbury. It's a challenge, of course, to truly tour a cathedral, for its so intricate, vast, and even diverse that it's impossible to consume and take it all in at once. Rather, you must set aside hours of your day to tour it and experience it from different angles and perspectives. You can't just look at it from the perspective of the front door and think you've seen all that there is. No, you must go and stand in this part, and then go and stand over there. You must look up, you must look down. You must hear it and smell it.

The thing is despite how diverse and intricate different components of the cathedral may be, it's still all the same one edifice. Just because at one point your standing in the chapel of the cathedral and at another in the apse or at the High Altar doesn't mean you're in an entirely new building. You're still in the same cathedral, just experiencing it in a new and different way. And frankly, you'll never be able to say you've been to this cathedral until you've taken in every single component.

And so, when preparing to tour the cathedral you must make the conscientious decision of setting aside the time, the effort, and the perspectives needed to truly take in this beautiful and ancient house of worship. What will be my plan; what components are there that I need to be sure to see; but also what flexibility do I need to keep in order to just let the cathedral take me where she wants me to go.
