All right, let me say something that I'm going to say a lot and that you're going to hear a lot over the next number of months - to open your Bibles to the Gospel of Mark. You're going to hear that a lot. The Gospel of Mark. We're going to be here for who knows how long - maybe Jesus will return, and we'll still be in Mark. Who knows. But we're going to be right here in the Gospel of Mark. Some of you are saying, ''Anything but 1 Corinthians is good with me!''
I think this is going to be a tremendous series. I'm excited for it, can't wait for it. I'm so fired up about it this morning that we're going to get through all of one verse. Some of you are saying, ''Listen, Pastor Bob, we've got 16 chapters, 678 verses, we go at this pace, snails and turtles will be passing by us.'' I promise that we'll pick the pace up a little bit as we go, but I think it's important this morning that we lay the foundation well. I want to get the lay of the land, the environment, the foundation laid so we can build on it.
Do you have your imaginations this morning? Did you bring those with you? Good. Let's pretend this morning that we are not in a big large building that's warm and inviting. Let's pretend this morning, if we can, just for a moment, that we are huddled together and it is underground. We are in a place where it is dark, it's damp, and it's dirty. And we're gathered together, and we're terrified, we're scared, really, out of our minds. We're in the catacombs underneath the city. And the city in which we are huddled together underneath is the city of Rome. And Rome is in disarray right now. And if they find where we're at and if they find who they are, death is sure to come.
So we're huddled together, and we are trying to encourage one another, and we know that right above us, Rome has been destroyed, about 80 percent of it, by a fire. And right now, they are looking for someo ...
