Roy Rogers has been called the ''King of Cowboys.'' He appeared in 91 films and 102 TV shows. He was known to millions of fans as the hero in his white 10 gallon-hat riding his beloved palomino horse, Trigger, who tracked down the bad guys. For 12 years, from 1943 to 1955 he was America's number one cowboy star.

The Roy Rogers show was first seen on TV on December 30, 1951 and for the next 5 years it was the most popular weekly cowboy show. From the old Double R Bar Ranch, he along with his wife Dale Evans and her horse Buttermilk and their dog Bullet fought the bad guys to maintain law and order in the west.

His death on July 6, 1998 at the age of 86, ended for many older moviegoers the sad finale of their once-upon-a-time love affair with the American West. A place where the good guys did, indeed, wear white hats and the bad guys were captured. Where good overcame evil every time.

Rogers was an outspoken Christian activist and supporter of many different charities. He was once described by film critic Leonard Maltin as someone who portrayed himself as a good, honest man because as Martin said, ''That's what he was.''

He played the role of a good guy in the movies and on TV who did the right things because he had the right character, but more important than the role he played that's who he really was.

God is concerned with developing our character because he wants us to become godly like Jesus Christ and to live righteous lives. You see, who we are causes us to choose what we do. In other words, our character determines our conduct. Proverbs 20:11 NIV Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.
