Tithing: A Deliberate Act of Devotion
Richard Bradley
Malachi 3:8-12

The people of Malachi's day had gotten away from God; that was obvious. How do we know this? They were no longer doing the things that best testified of their devotion to Him. We can say we love God but do we really? What's the evidence of our devotion? We can say America is a Christian nation but is it really? Again, what's the evidence? The evidence seems to indicate a nation that is getting farther and farther away from God by the hour. In fact, I would say we've reached a rather critical stage.

Malachi's people had also come to a critical place in their relationship with the Almighty. According to the prophet, they had fallen so far out of fellowship with God they had stopped tithing. It is true that tithing is an act of obedience but it's far more than that. Our tithe is a ''love gift'' that demonstrates our devotion to God.

The people had stopped tithing because they had fallen out of love with God. True revival will cure a lot of ills among God's people. It will certainly cause us to reexamine how and what we give to the Lord.
