Many of you will know at least some of the athletes on the screen-
Lance Armstrong, Michael Vick, Tonya Harding, O.J. Simpson, Tiger Woods, Ben Johnson, Barry Bonds, Pete Rose
Although these men and women played in a variety of sports-all of these athletes have one thing in common: They know what it's like to go from a HERO to a ZERO.

For one reason or another, they fell from a place at the top of their game to a low place where they never imagined they would be.

Today, as we open God's word and continue our study of the book of Acts, we're going to see Paul and Barnabas experienced a similar ''Hero to Zero'' moment in the city of Lystra.

However, unlike the athletes I've already mentioned, their downfall wasn't due to a fault of their own. [ACTS 14]

If you'll remember last week, Paul and Barnabas were in the city of Iconium, preaching the gospel in the Synagogue and the Bible says many Jews and Gentiles believed and were saved.

And then it went on to say-because of the momentum of the early church and the number of people that were converting to Christianity-a group of religious Jews rose up against the apostles and started making trouble in the city.

They stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. Remember that? They were spreading rumors about the apostles and planting seeds of doubt and skepticism in the minds of those who were listening to them preach the gospel...

And what was the result of their attacks? The city was divided, and persecution rose up against the apostles.

In fact, [v. 5] says a group rose up and had intentions to stone these men to death. So, they fled Iconium and made their way to the city of Lystra... where [v. 7] says, ''...there they continued to preach the gospel.''
