Leviticus 23.24-25
As we continue our study of Living Out the Feasts of Israel, take God's word and turn with me to Leviticus chapter 23. It's here we find a catalogue of Israel's annual feasts which were more than just feast and sacred assemblies, they were Old Testament types or shadows of things to come: namely Jesus and his church!
To have a shadow requires something real. In other words, to have a shadow of a house requires an actual house. Say you were looking to buy a house and you found one you really liked. As you drove up to see it, you notice the sun hitting it just right causing it to cast a shadow next to it.
Question: would you want to purchase the shadow or the house? Would you prefer living in the shadow or in the house? You say, ''Ernest, that's silly. Why would I want to purchase or live in the shadow when I could have the real thing?''
Exactly! The Old Testament presents the shadow of things to come which tells us there is something that casts the shadows, right? And those things are found in the New Testament. So, the Old Testament presents the shadow whereas the New Testament presents the substance!
For example, the first feast of Israel was Passover. It was a literal feast but was also a shadow of things to come; namely Jesus and his church. It was no coincidence that Jesus died on Passover. The New Testament tells us in 1 Corinthians 5.7, ''Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.''
Now what took place after the death of Jesus? His burial and we know that He was buried on the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for leaven is a picture of sin. And Jesus had no sin.
What happened after his burial? His resurrection. And His resurrection took place on the Feast of Firstfruits for the New Testament tells us in 1 Corinthians 15.20, ''But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have ...
