I'll be launching a new fall series this weekend entitled ''Heart for the House''.
We have many new people coming into our church community, and it's important to be reminded what this church--that one that Jesus said He would build--is all about
It's hard to have a heart for something unless you know the heart in something.
In comparison, how about that person you are considering marrying? They may look good from the outside, but you need to know what is in their heart before you commit. Right?
Now, I love old classic cars, especially Ford Mustangs.
Because I love this classic car make and model, I will peruse in them in marketplace on occasion. Many of them look great from the outside.
But I want to know what's under the hood! Sorry, but a ''six-banger'' doesn't do it for me even if the outside looks great!
Or maybe it's a ''50-footer''! Meaning it looks great from 50 feet, but when you get closer you see the bondo patch jobs, or that rust, etc.
First of all, I want to say that if you are looking for the perfect church, it's not going to happen. Because it's full of people that are imperfect but are on a journey toward Jesus.
And honestly, it's one of the reasons I love the church, love the ''house'', because of the opportunity to be part of the process that Jesus is doing in each person.
Getting back to my comparison. Let's say, you find someone. When you love them, you find yourself participating in what they love! (I shop because my wife loves to shop.)
And Jesus is calling people to Him, He is building people little by little, using a community of people in the process.
His church is not being built with superstars or perfect people but those who are lost, wounded and broken. Bu ...
